Protective Gear Knee Protection Guide

When we talk about protective gear we usually think about protective accessories that helps us protect our body from different hazards. There are many varieties of protective gear starting from protective glasses that we put on when we are doing a chemistry experiment to pads and helmets that are used to protect our head and limbs while we do some type of sport. And that is where protective knee pads come in too, because many of the available knee pads are made specifically to be used as protective gear for protecting our knees while we work, do sports or do some other everyday activities.

I admit that protective gear usually is the the least glamorous thing possible, because most often protective knee pads add bulk to our knees as well as in some case even restricts our movements so for example it is comfortable to squat on our knees but very uncomfortable to walk. But if we rally think about it which is better – painful knees from repeated activities or an inconvenience in the form of a feeling of restriction while you move.

One of the most common protective knee pads are knee pads that are made as protection while doing different sports from basketball and football to action sports like skateboarding and BMX. If in contact sports usually these type of knee pads are a necessity and the players must wear them if they want to preserve their knees then in action sports especially if the aren’t done professionally many don’t even bother to wear protective pads. But since specifically action and extreme sports are the disciplines where most injuries occur because falling while doing variety of tricks isn’t uncommon, it is unwise not to wear protective gear especially if you are first starting out. Luckily for action sport lovers nowadays different types and styles of protective pads are available that will actually look cool when you wear them and others will be able to only admire you for having such a cool look while you are skating or biking.

Another activity that pretty much requires for you to wear protective gear and more specifically protective knee pads is or should I say should be driving a motorcycle. Motorcycle is a vehicle that doesn’t provide a steel frame as a safeguard for the driver like cars do, instead on motorcycle you are exposed to the elements and there is a huge chance that you can scrape or otherwise injure your knees. Which is why those who do drive a motorcycle too should think about purchasing some type of protective knee pads. There are special knee pads with metal plates on the front of them that are made for motorcycle drivers as well as leather knee pads that although won’t be as protective as metal will still most likely save your knees in case of a fall. So really you can chose the knee pads that are suitable for your taste, that look good but that still protect one of the most important parts of our bodies – our knees.

And then of course there are protective knee pads that are geared towards those people who work in construction or other jobs where there might be a chance that you can hurt your knees. If you work in a profession where you have to squat or kneel for long periods of time, have to repetitively kneel and stand up or simply you encounter activities that put a lot of stress on your knees then knee pads could be the savior of your knees. You can get the most basic padded fabric knee pads, leather covered ones or even pads with plastic cup in front of them and all of them will provide you with different levels of protection and will reduce the risk of overuse or impact injury that can lower your productivity or even leave you out of commission for several weeks or months.

No matter if you play basketball, skateboard, drive a motorcycle, work as a carpenter or simply do a lot of tasks that require squatting on your knees like cleaning then protective gear might be the answer to your knee problems. Often people don’t notice knee pain until it is too late and arthritis or other type of condition has already developed in your knees or until you suffer a blow to your knees that is hard enough to cause serious injury. But there is a way to prevent or at least to slow down the formation of knee pain and knee conditions and to prevent injury which it is to wear protective knee pads of some type because they not only protect form cuts and scrapes but also cushion blows so the worst injury you can get is some serious bruising of your knees and your knees receive much less stress slowing down their wearing down process.
