Arthrosis Knee Health

Springs and autumns are the seasons when people experience an outbreak of joint pain. Those who know this problem are waiting the end of winter with concerns. Nowadays a lot of people feel joint pain already in the second half of life – after 20 years of age a natural aging process starts, which sooner or later affects joints. The main factors that are connected with seasonality is more sedentary lifestyle in winters and overload in warm seasons of the year.

Most often leg joints hurt

The main reason of joint pain is arthrosis. Arthrosis is a disease that is accompanied with pain and stiffness in joints as well as in surrounding tissues. In childhood and youth humans system of bones, joints, and muscles is developing, but after 20 years of age the aging process of this system starts. Of course, if the load is correct and the movement is sufficient, it is possible to slow down the aging process. However, for older people it is hard to avoid joint pain. The greatest load is on the leg joints, therefore knees and hips hurt most, especially if a person is overweight.

How to maintain healthy joints as long as possible? What to train and what to preserve? Locomotor apparatus includes bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and fascia. However, only muscles are active elements that we can affect by ourselves – to train, to strengthen, and to develop – and that is everyone of us have to do in order to ensure the stability of our joints. The rest are passive elements, which have to be preserved without overloading them and using them properly.

What is arthrosis?

Arthrosis is a degenerative, progressive disease characterized by changes in the articular surfaces. This disease mainly affects people in the second half of their life. It can be encouraged by overload, different micro-traumas, and bones fractures. Also a sedentary lifestyle can lead to arthrosis because the musculature around the joints is weakly developed. Often arthritis, which can cause severe joint deformities, can be blamed as well. It also should be mentioned that such harsh environments as cool, humidity, and vibrations in the long run can negatively affect the joints. Arhrosis development can be encouraged by some inherited imperfection in the joint as well. For example, a flatfeet and a clubfoot can cause the arthrosis.

The pain increases with time

Joint pain tends to manifest in different ways. Joints may ache after a standstill, when a person stands up after prolonged sitting and is taking the first steps, or vice versa – the pain appears after the load and passes after the rest. Joints often hurt when the weather conditions change. At the beginning joint pain is temporary and irregular, but with the time it can become permanent and torment at nights. Often movement disorders join pain. By the time joints change also visually, deforms, and an excess liquid accumulates in them. If the pain is frequent and regular, and even at nights, a patient has to search for doctor’s help, and the self-medication is no longer acceptable.

Procedures mobilizes the body

For joint treatment therapeutic exercises, ergotherapy, massages, physical therapy, and spa treatments are used – all this help to improve blood circulation and metabolic processes in the locomotor apparatus, preparing it for the load. Procedures themselves do not cure ailments, but by improving blood circulation and metabolism they ensure that the damaged area are supplied with more oxygen and nutrients. The body sees in which body places the mobilization of power is needed, and the body treats itself. If the arthrosis has affected several joints, they cannot be cured at the same time, as it is hard to mobilize in several places at the same time – the body will be bewildered, and there will not be any results, therefore procedures have to be done gradually and systematically.
